The Walking Dead’s upcoming Rick and Michonne spinoff series has officially wrapped shooting. The announcement came from the creative team behind the series, which is currently titled Summit, and they shared the news on Twitter and showed appreciation of the fans that have kept the franchise alive all these years. This note reads:
“Thank you for creating the next world of The Walking Dead with us. Your talent, energy, and enthusiasm through it all has been the thing that’s gotten us through it all, bringing home a story more than a decade in the telling! This story will live on and our work with it; we’re the ones who live.”
The series centers around fan-favorite characters Rick and Michonne with Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira reprising their roles. This was originally planned as a film trilogy but was then reworked as a six-episode series.
The series presents “an epic love story of two characters changed by a changed world. Kept apart by distance. By an unstoppable power. By the ghosts of who they were. Rick and Michonne are thrown into another world, built on a war against the dead… And ultimately, a war against the living. Can they find each other and who they were in a place and situation unlike any they’ve ever known before? Are they enemies? Lovers? Victims? Victors? Without each other, are they even alive — or will they find that they, too, are the Walking Dead?”
Scott M. Gimple, Chief Content Officer of The Walking Dead Universe, serves as showrunner and executive producer alongside Lincoln, Gurira, Denise Huth, and Brian Bockrath.
This is the one spinoff series that I’m actually looking forward to seeing because these were two of my favorite characters and they had one of the more interesting story arcs. So, it will be cool to see their story wrap up in this upcoming series.
