Fans were shocked when Donald Glover graced their screens during Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. One of the film’s writers, Chris Miller, recently shared new behind-the-scenes photos of the cameo, including a first look at how it was filmed.
Donald Glover holds a special place in the history of Miles Morales, serving both as an inspiration for the character and being teased as Aaron Davis in Spider-Man: Homecoming. That Marvel Cinematic Universe promise was finally fulfilled in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse where Glover made a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it cameo as The Prowler. Chris Miller, a writer and producer on the film, has shared photos of Glover on set, filming his cameo.
Many fans hope that his cameo in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse serves as a springboard for Donald Glover to return to the MCU as The Prowler. However, writer Phil Lord recently revealed that the entire thing was a last-minute favor by Glover that lacks any future commitment. Given Glover is also currently attached to Sony’s Hypno Hustler project, it’s unlikely fans will be seeing him return as Aaron Davis anytime soon.
Directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers and Justin K. Thompson from a screenplay written by Phil Lord, Christopher Miller and Dave Callaham, Across The Spider-Verse also features the voice talents of Jake Johnson, Brian Tyree Henry, Luna Lauren Vélez, Jason Schwartzman, Rachel Dratch, Shea Whigham and Jorma Taccone. Avi Arad, Amy Pascal, Christina Steinberg are producing the upcoming movie alongside Lord and Miller, who also worked on its predecessor.
The Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse synopsis reads as follows: “Miles Morales returns for the next chapter of the Oscar-winning Spider-Verse saga… After reuniting with Gwen Stacy, Brooklyn’s full-time, friendly neighborhood Spider-Man is catapulted across the Multiverse, where he encounters a team of Spider-People charged with protecting its very existence. But when the heroes clash on how to handle a new threat, Miles finds himself pitted against the other Spiders and must redefine what it means to be a hero so he can save the people he loves most.”
