Last week, recently-formed publisher DSTLRY announced that their forthcoming debut comic, The Devil’s Cut, would launch new series from eight of the issue’s 11 stories. The anthology will feature work from founding DSTLRY creators including James Tynion IV, Christian Ward, Elsa Charretier, Mirka Andolfo, Jock, and many more. The Devil’s Cut will also feature a slew of variant covers, and today The Beat is pleased to exclusively reveal artist Jamie McKelvie‘s variant cover for the issue.

Here’s how DSLTRY describes The Devil’s Cut, which features the main cover shown above by Jock:

The Devil’s Cut is your introduction to DSTLRY, a new publisher redefining creator-owned comics. In the aging process, the whiskey that evaporates is called the Angel’s Share. But the most potent spirits are captured in the wood-the Devil’s Cut.

This is The Devil’s Cut-unfiltered stories from the most fearless creators, offering a distinct taste of the quality to come. 88 oversized pages printed on premium paper, featuring a flight of high-proof work from our Founding Creators including Scott Snyder, James Tynion IV, Tula Lotay, Mirka Andolfo, Jock, Becky Cloonan, Brian Azzarello, Marc Bernardin, Elsa Charretier, Lee Garbett, Joelle Jones, Stephanie Phillips, Ram V, Jamie McKelvie, Junko Mizuno  and friends including Francesco Francavilla, Ariela Kristantina, Eduardo Risso, Christian Ward, and more. Edited by the legendary Will Dennis.

The five-page story from McKelvie and letterer Aditya Bidikar in the anthology, “What Happens Next…,” isn’t one of the eight that’s being expanded into a series, though it certainly could be. McKelvie’s artwork on the story is, as usual, beautiful, presenting a shimmering, sci-fi city and futuristic-yet-fashionable characters that grab the reader immediately. At only five pages one might think it would feel slight, but “What Happens Next…” is fully realized from the jump, and the ending leaves plenty of room for further stories.

Check out McKelvie’s cover to The Devil’s Cut below. The physical edition of the one-shot, with all of its variant covers, is due out in stores on Wednesday, August 30th, and is on final order cutoff this weekend through Lunar Distribution (FOC: July 2; Item Code 0623DY327) and Diamond Comic Distributors (FOC: July 3; Item Code JUN231789).
