Two decades after first gripping Elektra’s twin sais, Jennifer Garner is making a spectacular comeback to the Marvel Universe. The beloved actress is all set to don the crimson garb of the iconic Marvel assassin for Deadpool 3, as revealed by The Hollywood Reporter.
Jennifer Garner initially portrayed Elektra in Daredevil, a 2003 production by 20th Century Fox. Despite Daredevil’s lukewarm response, Garner’s powerful portrayal of Elektra led to her standalone spin-off, Elektra, released two years later in 2005.
Remembered for Ben Affleck’s portrayal of Daredevil, the original 2003 film saw Garner and Affleck come together for the first time. Despite its box office performance, Daredevil is recognized for introducing Garner’s Elektra into the big screen. Garner’s return as Elektra, paired with that of Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, indicates the involvement of the multiverse, a concept recently introduced and explored within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
A multiverse perspective allows multiple versions of characters to exist simultaneously, hailing from different timelines and realities. The return of these loved characters from past Marvel movies suggests that Deadpool 3 might tap into this realm, blending the old with the new for Wade Wilson’s third cinematic outing.
The first two Deadpool movies were produced by 20th Century Fox before the studio’s acquisition by The Walt Disney Company. Deadpool 3 is being written as the first movie in the series set within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
