It’s been no secret that Vincent D’Onofrio is set to return as Kingpin in Echo. However, a new rumor suggests he may have a bigger role than many would expect.
While fans eagerly await the return of Vincent D’Onofrio as Kingpin in Daredevil: Born Again, the finale of Hawkeye suggested he would have some unfinished business with Maya Lopez (played by Alaqua Cox) in Echo. According to insider CanWeGetSomeToast?, this business is set to be the driving force of the MCU Disney Plus series, with Kingpin serving as the main villain to set him up for a mayoral campaign in Born Again.
The use of Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin in Hawkeye, Echo, and Daredevil: Born Again is certainly a double-edged sword. While he’s certainly a fan-favorite character, it’s possible the abundance of Disney Plus series may serve to over expose audiences to him. However, given the state of Marvel’s current overarching big-bad with Jonathan Majors, perhaps having another villain connecting the universe isn’t the worst idea.
Echo is set to debut on November 29, 2023 on Disney Plus, with every episode of the show releasing at once. This makes it the first MCU project on Disney Plus to follow the Netflix binge model of releasing all of the episodes on the same day.
Alaqua Cox’s Hawkeye spinoff series will be the tenth overall original Marvel Studios series for Disney Plus, and is one of two other live-action spinoffs from previous series that also includes the WandaVision spinoff, Agatha: Coven of Chaos.
Here is the official synopsis for the upcoming Hawkeye spinoff series, Echo:
“The origin story of Echo revisits Maya Lopez, whose ruthless behavior in New York City catches up with her in her hometown. She must face her past, reconnect with her Native American roots and embrace the meaning of family and community if she ever hopes to move forward.”
Serving as executive producers on Echo are Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Brad Winderbaum, Stephen Broussard, Richie Palmer, Marion Dayre, and Jason Gavin, while Amy Rardin, Sydney Freeland, Christina King, and Jennifer Booth will serve as co-executive producers.
