Sofia Vergara’s response to Joe Manganiello divorce filing sees star ask court to enforce prenup

Sofía Vergara is seeking to protect her assets and have her prenuptial agreement honoured in her divorce from Joe Manganiello.

After Mangiello filed for divorce on June 19 – listing the date of separation as June 2 – court documents obtained by PEOPLE show Vergara has officially responded.

In the Modern Family star’s response to the court, she also cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the dissolution of their marriage.

To ensure her assets remain in her possession, the documents have revealed Vergara has specified the assets she is seeking to keep.

After asking the court to enforce the couple’s prenuptial agreement, the star also made a claim for jewellery, artwork and “other personal effects”, as well as her earnings from before and during their marriage.

The two actors announced the news of their intention to divorce via a joint statement issued to Page Six on June 17.

“We have made the difficult decision to divorce. As two people that love and care for one another very much, we politely ask for respect of our privacy at this time as we navigate this new phase of our lives,” the statement read.

Two days after the announcement, Manganiello filed for divorce.

Legal documents filed by the Magic Mike star’s lawyer cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for divorce and noted the date of separation was July 2, 2023.

A source told Page Six at the time that one of the biggest difficulties the pair faced was their different views on having children.

While Manganiello was prepared to be a dad, Vergara wasn’t on the same page.

The source said the pair “differ immensely in style and what they like to do, although during the marriage, each tried to put the other’s interests ahead of their own to make it work.”

Vergara’s indifference towards having children with Manganiello may be related to her highly-publicised court battle with her ex-fiancé Nick Loeb over frozen embryos, which she won in 2021.
