Summary
A number of beloved core Avatar: The Last Airbender characters share a peaceful moment together in new art. The beloved Nickelodeon show followed titular Avatar Aang’s journey to master the elements and restore balance and harmony to the world. While the sequel series The Legend of Korra pictured the later lives of the Gaang long after the original series, a number of film projects set within the world are in development, including a movie that will revisit the original group.
While the new Avatar: The Last Airbender movie will feature grown-up versions of its ensemble, one of Zelfantazy’s recent posts on Instagram features artwork that envisions a quieter, but cheerful moment during their travels for International Friendship Day.
In the artwork, Aang, Katara, Sokka, Toph, and Suki take a break from their journey across the world to enjoy an evening at a festival. Each character has their own unique new outfits inspired by their standard costumes.
What Happened To The Gaang After Avatar: The Last Airbender
Following the events of Avatar: The Last Airbender, its core characters set out to restore peace to the world following the defeat of the Fire Nation, as seen in numerous comics. Aang and Katara joined Zuko in deciding what to do with the Fire Nation’s former colonies in the Earth Kingdom, before aiding Zuko in finding his mother. Sokka and Katara also helped in the reconstruction of the Southern Water Tribe, while Suki returned to the Kyoshi Warriors to serve as Zuko’s guard once he became Fire Lord. Toph passed on her metalbending talents through a school she created.
The Legend of Korra revealed what happened to the gang in their later years. Both Aang and Katara would eventually marry and start a family of their own, though Aang’s time in the ice was revealed to have taken its toll on his body, leading to an early death at 66. His friends still played major roles in reshaping the world. Katara taught the next Avatar, Korra, and Sokka chaired and represented the Southern Water Tribe on the United Republic Council. Toph founded Republic City’s Metalbending Police Force, and Zuko would help create the Republic, stepping down as Fire Lord.
The above artwork is a delightful reunion of Avatar: The Last Airbender’s core cast. With the group constantly fighting the save the world on the show, the artwork is a pleasant glimpse at the Gaang cherishing a rare, peaceful moment. This also gives an idea of where the upcoming movies could take the beloved characters now that they’re a bit older and have saved the world from the Fire Nation.
