Blue Beetle is set to take the DC Universe to the next level when it debuts later this month. A new behind-the-scenes featurette teases the intense work put into the action sequences in the film by star Xolo Maridueña.
Blue Beetle has a lot to prove in the eyes of fans. The first Latino-led superhero film has to contend with the weight of kicking off the DC Universe after a string of critical and financial failures from DC Studios while also being originally made as a Max Original. Luckily, it seems as though Xolo Maridueña brought his A-Game as Jaime Reyes, along with the rest of the cast, in the newest behind-the-scenes featurette, courtesy of ScreenRant. The full featurette can be seen below:
Despite the film being yet to release, it seems as though Blue Beetle has a bright future in the DC Universe. Xolo Maridueña has confirmed he’s talked with James Gunn about returning as Jaime Reyes in future DC Studios projects and director Angel Manuel Soto has revealed his plans for a trilogy. Though the only way for any of that to come to fruition is for the #BlueBeetleBattalion to come out to theaters once the film releases!
Who is DC’s Blue Beetle?
Blue Beetle is one of DC’s lesser-known heroes, but he has a dedicated fanbase nonetheless. Created in 1939 by Charles Wojtkowski, Blue Beetle has gone through several iterations over the years. The Jaime Reyes version of the character was introduced during the events of 2006’s Infinite Crisis and quickly became a fan-favorite.
In the pages of DC Comics, Jaime Reyes is a teenager from El Paso, Texas. Jaime discovers a scarab beetle-shaped device that bonds with his body, giving him access to an advanced suit of armor and various powers. He becomes the latest in a long line of Blue Beetles and must learn to balance his newfound abilities with his everyday life.
