Thunderbolts* Original Sentry Star on if They Still Want to Be in the MCU

Summary

JR’s pride led to his elimination from Claim to Fame as he incorrectly guessed that Chris was related to Billy Idol. There was more going on behind the scenes that influenced JR’s decision to eliminate Chris, which was not shown on the episode. JR spoke about his close bond with his younger brother, Lil Nas X, and praised his hard work and vision in every project he takes on.

On Claim to Fame season 2 episode 8, contestant JR was revealed to be Lil Nas X’s older brother, and he now explains how his pride led to his elimination from the game. JR had a strong start on Claim to Fame as he was able to trick everyone into thinking that his celebrity relative was an NBA basketball star. However, when Gabriel won JR’s Wine Room puzzle clue, he figured out that he was related to Lil Nas X. Although Gabriel knew JR’s identity, he wanted to keep him safe. Unfortunately, JR incorrectly guessed that Chris was related to Billy Idol, and was eliminated from Claim to Fame.

In an interview with PopCulture, JR, whose full name is Robert Lamar Stafford Jr., shared that he was “prepared for the consequences of possibly saying the wrong celebrity for Chris.” Two other players, Jane and Hugo, had previously guessed Chris incorrectly, stating that he was related to Elvis Presley and Elton John, respectively. However, JR revealed that there was “a lot of behind-the-scenes stuff going on that was not shown.” Because of this, JR let his “pride get the best of [him]” because he felt that Chris “had to go.”

JR also spoke about his relationship with his younger brother, Lil Nas X. He shared, “Our relationship is a typical brother bond.” JR added that the only difference is that Lil Nas X is “a huge superstar so he is busier than most, however when we link up, we never miss a beat.” He gushed, “What people don’t know is how hard he works on every single project. His vision is immaculate and he makes it come to life and that is what I love the most about him.”

JR was a fantastic Claim to Fame player. He was able to keep his true identity under wraps until late in the game. He also fought through his foot injury, which he sustained during the episode 1 talent show, and didn’t let it hold him back. It’s interesting to hear that there were more things that were not shown in regard to why he wanted Chris out of the house. Chris and Gabriel’s Claim to Fame episode 8 argument was heartbreaking, considering how closely they’d worked together up until that point. Perhaps JR knew more about it than what was aired, and it rubbed him the wrong way.

JR took a big chance by trying to get Chris out of the game. He probably should’ve guessed Karsyn because he and his fellow contestants were much more sure of her identity. It’s amazing how Chris has been able to avoid elimination three times already due to incorrect guesses. The contestants need more clues about him before they try to eliminate him again. JR’s admission that his pride caused him to guess Chris despite not being sure about him is very intriguing. Hopefully more will be revealed about JR’s decision on a later episode of Claim to Fame.

Claim to Fame airs Mondays at 10 p.m. EDT on ABC.
