The Wheel of Time keeps turning. Dynamite has announced a forthcoming comics adaptation of the second of Robert Jordan‘s Wheel of Time novels, The Great Hunt. The series will be written by Rik Hoskin and illustrated by Marcio Abreau. No other members of the creative team were named in the announcement.
Here’s how Dynamite describes the new series:
The Great Hunt stars the beloved series protagonist Rand al’Thor, as he and his companions Mat Cauthon and Perrin Aybara set out to retrieve the legendary Horn of Valere. Revealed as the Dragon Reborn, Rand’s adventure will be full of action and intrigue, such as when he finds himself transported to an alternate world. Meanwhile his initial love interest Egwene al’Vere is on her own journey to the White Tower to learn the ways of the Aes Sedai. With the Dark One hot on the heels of the new Dragon, everything will come to a head across many thrilling issues!
Along with a main cover by Mel Rubi, The Wheel of Time Book 2: The Great Hunt #1 will also sport a variant cover by Jordan Gunderson, as well as a photo variant cover featuring a still from the Amazon Prime adaptation of the novel series.
The Wheel of Time Book 2: The Great Hunt is the latest series from Dynamite to adapt Jordan’s beloved fantasy novels. Adaptations of the prequel novel, New Spring, and the first book in the series, The Eye of the World, ran for 8 issue and 35 issues, respectively, from 2010-2013.
In a statement announcing the series, writer Rik Hoskin described his approach to adapting such a well-known and beloved book:
“With a project like this, I always try to be as faithful as I can to the source material,” said writer Rik Hoskin. “That means familiarizing myself with the world, and trying to get it all into chunks I can refer to quickly — a bit like making revision notes when you’re at school!”
