Thunderbolts* Original Sentry Star on if They Still Want to Be in the MCU

Summary

Shawn Levy confirms that some of the rumors surrounding Deadpool 3 cameos are true, but others are not. The internet has created a buzz around the potential cast, but not everything should be believed. Levy emphasizes that Deadpool 3 went to great lengths to avoid filming on sound stages with digital environments, and referenced the set leaks that occurred as a result. As principal photography comes to an end, audiences eagerly await the truth behind the Deadpool 3 cameo rumors, with the potential for returning Marvel characters from the 20th Century Fox films. Only time will tell who will join Wade in the MCU.

While Deadpool 3 is rumored to feature various Marvel cameos, Shawn Levy is addressing some of the rumors. Ryan Reynolds is finally joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Deadpool, and in perhaps the biggest way ever. Not only is Deadpool crossing over from the 20th Century Fox universe into the MCU, but Reynolds will also be sharing the screen with Hugh Jackman as Wolverine in Deadpool 3, marking the first time the characters have appeared together since X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

As huge as Jackman’s Wolverine return will be, there have been reports of other 20th Century Fox-Marvel characters popping up in the Deadpool 3 story. While Marvel Studios has, understandingly so, chosen not to confirm or deny any of the floating rumors, Deadpool 3’s filmmaker has spoken out about some of those cameos. Without naming specifics, Levy revealed to Entertainment Weekly that “some of those rumors are true, and some of them aren’t,” sharing the following:

The rumors of actors, singers, sports stars who are all apparently in Deadpool 3 are fabulous. If all I read was the internet, I would have the greatest cast ever assembled in the history of cinema, so I’ll simply say that some of those rumors are true, and some of them aren’t.

Even though Levy is keeping additional cameos under wraps, another interview he did recently provides some further context for the Deadpool 3 cameo statement. When chatting with Deadline, Levy stressed how they “went to great lengths” to not film on “sound stages with digital environments.” The director also stated that “the internet has proven that by leaking pictures of our shoot. Thank you internet! We wanted something that felt grounded, real,” seemingly referring to the Deadpool 3 set photos with the destroyed 20th Century Fox logo behind Wade Wilson and Wolverine. Given this confirmed some major rumors about the movie – and suggests that more are yet to come – it’s potentially for the best that Deadpool 3’s director reminded audiences that not every casting rumor can or will come true.

It will be interesting to see which Deadpool 3 cameo rumors are and aren’t true once they have finished principal photography. With Jackman’s Wolverine an already established figure in the movie, the potential of returning Marvel characters from the 20th Century Fox films is endless. For now, the world will have to wait and see who actually end up being in Deadpool 3 as Wade comes over to the MCU.
