Rumors have recently been circulating that Spider-Man: Freshman Year had been quietly cancelled. The show’s head writer Jeff Trammell assures fans Peter Parker’s Disney Plus journey is far from over.

It’s been nearly two years since the reveal that Spider-Man: Freshman Year would bring Peter Parker’s early years in the MCU in a Disney Plus animated series, with almost no news being revealed since. This has led many to speculate the series had been cancelled in an attempt to cut back on Marvel content. However, the show’s head writer Jeff Trammell assures fans the crew is still hard at work:

Nothing that I can share yet, just that I’m eager for everyone to see the show. Our crew worked (and is still working) hard to make Freshman Year feel special, fun and unique and I’m excited for the world to see it! https://t.co/wANQ3jfskB

Spider-Man: Freshman Year certainly has stiff competition in the realm of animated series starring Peter Parker. Between Spectacular Spider-Man and the delightfully weird Spider-Man Unlimited, juggling the MCU’s continuity may serve to doom the Disney Plus series when compared to its contemporaries, or it may just be the thing to make it rise above the rest.

What’s next for Spider-Man?

What does the future hold for Tom Holland’s Peter Parker? The success of Spider-Man: No Way Home has opened up a world of possibilities for the fan-favorite Marvel character. The movie ends with Peter erasing himself from the memories of his loved ones in order to protect them from his enemies. This sets up an interesting dynamic for future Spider-Man movies, as Peter will have to navigate a world in which he is not known as Spider-Man.

Rumor has it that Tom Holland has signed on for multiple Marvel Cinematic Universe appearances after Spider-Man: No Way Home. The future of the Spider-Man series is currently unclear, but it is likely that Marvel will continue to explore the multiverse concept that was introduced in No Way Home.

Spider-Man: No Way Home is now available to own on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray, Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital HD. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding Spider-Man’s Marvel Cinematic Universe future and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
