“Dancing With the Stars” is gearing up for its 32nd season and the full slate of contestants has finally arrived. In the months leading up to the full cast announcement, the show slowly unveiled a few names. During a Sept. 12 episode of “Good Morning America,” Jamie Lynn Spears revealed that she’s officially joining the show.
“I don’t know if one can ever be 100% ready to take on something this big; I didn’t realize what a commitment it is, but it definitely is. I’m ready to challenge myself,” she said, adding that she’ll be donating her weekly earnings from the show to SAG-AFTRA and the WGA during their ongoing strikes. “While everybody else in my community is on strike, I have this unique opportunity where I was offered a chance to work when my community cannot work,” Spears added. “So I figured I’ll do this and I will donate my weekly salary . . . to just give back to them at a time where they can’t give back to themselves.”
Meanwhile, “Vanderpump Rules” star Ariana Madix was the season’s first contestant to be announced. Judge Derek Hough shared the news on “Good Morning America” on July 7 during a visit to Madix’s sandwich shop, Something About Her. “This season on ‘Dancing with the Stars,’ we are going absolutely mad — mad for Madix!” said Derek. “Say goodbye to the drama and hello to the dance floor!” Madix then stepped out and introduced herself. “That’s right, I’m ‘Vanderpump Rules”s Ariana Madix, and I will be joining the cast of ‘Dancing With the Stars’ this season,” she said before breaking out a few dance moves.
The news arrived months after Madix found herself at the center of a scandal on “Vanderpump Rules” after she separated from her partner of nine years, Tom Sandoval, due to his affair with their friend and costar Raquel Leviss. Overall, despite being candid about how painful the breakup was, Madix seemed to have come out on top of the whole debacle, a fact that Andy Cohen reiterated on his “Radio Andy” show in May. “I mean, she’s gotten endorsement deals. She’s on ‘Dancing With the Stars,'” he said, teasing the news of her involvement months before it was confirmed.
“Dancing With the Stars” season 32 premieres on ABC on Sept. 26. Judges Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Tonioli will join Derek, who is taking over as head judge following Len Goodman’s death in April. Julianne Hough will return to cohost alongside Alfonso Ribeiro.
