Summary
Trolls Band Together will feature new music from the iconic boy band *NSYNC after more than two decades. The movie, which stars former *NSYNC member Justin Timberlake as the grouchy troll Branch, reveals the fact that Branch was in the boy band BroZone with his brothers when he was a child. After learning this, his now-girlfriend Princess Poppy (Anna Kendrick) takes him on a musical journey to save his kidnapped brother and get the band back together.
Universal Pictures has debuted another official trailer for the movie ahead of the official Trolls Band Together release date on November 17. Check it out below:
The beginning of the trailer teases the fact that the movie will feature the first new music from *NSYNC since 2002, ending with a snippet of one of their new songs, “Better Place.” That track is set to be released as a full single on September 29.
*NSYNC’s Trolls Band Together Reunion Makes Perfect Sense
It is currently unclear exactly how the new *NSYNC music will come into play in the movie. It seems like the new tracks will be featured in the movie as BroZone songs, with *NSYNC members Timberlake, Chris Kirkpatrick, JC Chasez, Lance Bass, and Joey Fatone performing the singing voices of the characters. However, other than Timberlake, none of the band members will voice the dialogue for the characters, who will be voiced by Eric André, Kid Cudi, Troye Sivan, and Daveed Diggs.
Regardless of how this new music is folded in, it makes perfect sense for the Trolls sequel to include these new tracks. The jukebox musical franchise has always been inundated with pop culture references, but the plot of this new entry entirely hinges upon the real-life boy band past of its star. Although the Trolls Band Together trailer reveals that the soundtrack also features the classic *NSYNC track “I Want You Back,” it makes sense to honor Timberlake’s legacy by properly reuniting him with the band that is being parodied onscreen.
Trolls Band Together also comes at a time when many of the members of *NSYNC have their own new projects to promote. While Kirkpatrick is coming off a hat trick of reality show appearances on Celebrity Big Brother, The Masked Singer, and MTV Cribs, Chasez is creating a musical and Bass recently launched a podcast called Frosted Tips. Fatone also recently reprised his original role as part of the My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3 cast, making Trolls 3 his second trilogy-capper of 2023.
