Fans have been waiting for any news on season 2 of Ms. Marvel on Disney Plus ever since Iman Vellani made her MCU debut as Kamala Khan. According to directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, The Marvels is set to determine the future of the character.

While fans of Kamala Khan certainly had issues with Ms. Marvel, reception to the Disney Plus series trended mostly positive, much of which coming from the charisma of Iman Vellani herself. Despite this, there’s been no news on a season 2. When asked about a potential follow-up in a recent interview, directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah revealed they’re waiting for The Marvels to determine the future of the character in the MCU:

“We’re waiting for ‘The Marvels,’ so that will decide what the next step will be,” El Arbi tells The Playlist. “So we’re very much looking forward to that. I can’t wait to see it, man. It’s great to see the trailers and to see the whole family back there and Iman Vellani doing great work, so looking forward to that.”

Given the popularity of Iman Vellani as Ms. Marvel, it wouldn’t be a shock to see Kamala Khan upgraded to getting her own film following The Marvels. Even if she isn’t, fans would be more than happy to see her MCU journey continue on Disney Plus. They can only hope Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah don’t have the same luck with a season 2 as they did with Batgirl!

The talent behind The Marvels

The Marvels is set to be a groundbreaking film in many ways. Not only does it feature three powerful female superheroes, but it also has a female director, Nia DaCosta, who previously directed the horror flick Candyman. The movie features a cast that includes Zawe Ashton, Park Seo-joon, Saagar Shaikh, Zenobia Shroff, and Mohan Kapur.

“She has a really calm vibe, too,” Iman Vellani said about DaCosta. “These movies are not easy to make at all. There’s like a million, bajillion little moving pieces. She and [executive producer] Mary [Livanos] did such a great job to keep morale high. Even if there were days where they wanted to rip people’s heads off, they would never show it and never put their stress on anyone else.”

In addition to directing The Marvels, Nia DaCosta also co-wrote the script alongside Megan McDonnell, Elissa Karasik, and Zeb Wells. During an interview, DaCosta described the movie as being “full comic book madness,” teasing what audiences can expect from the latest Marvel Cinematic Universe project.
