The first season of Netflix’s League of Legends animated series, Arcane, was pretty damn awesome and fans have been excitedly waiting for Season 2 to be released. The next season is currently in development and has been for quite some time. But, we now know when we can expect Season 2 to drop.
The return of the acclaimed animated series is set to return for its second season late next year in 2024. The news was announced at the Video V Vision Conference hosted by Tencent, League of Legends’ Chinese parent company. There’s a good chance we can expect the series to be released in November, which is the some month Season 1 was released, and it also the time of League of Legends’ 15th anniversary event.
Riot Games CEO Nicolo Laurent previously offered an update explaining why it’s taking longer to release Season 2:
“It is not ready yet and there [are] two reasons for that. One, you want the quality. We just don’t want to rush and so that takes time. So that’s the good reason. The bad reason is, honestly, we didn’t know if Season 1 was going to be a success so we didn’t start Season 2 until [later]. If I had known, we could have started Season 2 way earlier. But we didn’t know so we waited a bit and now we’re paying the price. So, unfortunately, it’s not going to be this year.”
I’m fine with waiting longer if it means that we’re going to be treated with an incredible second season. That first season set the bar incredibly high, and Season 2 has to at least meet those standards.
The series is set in the utopian region of Piltover and the oppressed underground of Zaun, and the story follows the “origins of two iconic League champions-and the power that will tear them apart.” Those two characters are Vi and Jinx, sisters who find themselves at odds after a series of tragic and unfortunate events.
The series features Hailee Steinfeld as Vi, Katie Leung as Caitlyn, Kevin Alejandro as Jayce, Jason Spisak as Silco, Ella Purnell as Jinx, Toks Olagundoye as Mel, JB Blanc as Vander, and Harry Lloyd as Viktor.
