Travis Scott found himself in the hot seat on Monday as he underwent a lengthy civil deposition. It was related to the tragic events that unfolded during the 2021 Astroworld festival that took the lives of 10 attendees and injured hundreds more.
According to WLKY, Scott was questioned in Houston during a deposition that reportedly lasted around eight hours. It marked the first time he had been questioned by attorneys representing the plaintiffs. While reacting to the headlines, Ted Anastasiou, a spokesperson for Scott, shared a statement to the news outlet saying, “Travis Scott’s deposition is typical legal procedure. What is not typical is how the media continues to focus on him despite being cleared of any wrongdoing by extensive government investigations, including by the Houston Police Department,” Anastasiou explained. “Travis is fully cooperating with the legal process while still remaining committed to his tour in support of his record-breaking album, ‘Utopia,’ and his charitable efforts to support at-risk communities.”
As we previously reported, documents previously filed in court listed more than 1,500 active cases, many of which were filed against Scott and Live Nation, the concert promoter. Ultimately, Scott was cleared of any criminal charges back in June after a grand jury declined to indict him and five others on any criminal counts related to the deadly concert.

At least 50,000 people gathered for the third annual event on 5 November 2021 at the site of the former Houston Six Flags park. While it seemed like a normal crowded festival, things became super chaotic as the concert started. As the crowd surged toward the stage, attendees were getting crushed underfoot.
The outdoor festival in Houston sadly killed 10 attendees who ranged in age from 9 to 27. The official cause of death was compression asphyxia.
Despite many wanting Scott to be held accountable for the deaths and major injuries, he has maintained that he was not fully aware of the extent of the situation. In 2022, when he slowly returned to social media, he announced his new “Heal” mission. He said at the time,
“Over the past few months, I’ve been taking the time and space to grieve, reflect, and do my part to heal my community. Most importantly, I want to use my resources and platform moving forward towards actionable change. This will be a lifelong journey for me and my family.
While it’s easy for corporations and institutions to stay in the shadows, I feel as a leader in my community, I need to step up in times of need. My team and I created Project HEAL to take much-needed action towards supporting real solutions that make all events the safest spaces they can possibly be. I will always honor the victims of the Astroworld tragedy who remain in my heart forever.
Giving back and creating opportunities for the youth is something I’ve always done and will continue to do as long as I have the chance. This program will be a catalyst to real change and I can’t wait to introduce the rest of the technology and ideas we’ve been working on. See you all so soon.”
Since then, Scott has returned to the stage without any new incidents.
