The X/Twitter account of Donald Trump Jr. was hacked on Wednesday, with a now deleted series of posts including one that announced his father’s death and another with sexually explicit messages.
The messages appeared on Trump’s account after 8 a.m. ET on Wednesday before they were removed. One of the messages read, “I’m sad to announce: My father Donald Trump has passed away. I will be running for president in 2024.” Another talked of how North Korea was about “to get smoked.”
A spokesperson for the Trump Organization did not immediately return a request for comment. But an aide to Trump Jr., Andrew Surabian, wrote on X, “This is obviously not true. Don’s account has been hacked.” Trump Jr., known for his provocative posts, has more than 10 million followers.
The press office of X/Twitter was unavailable, with a message, “Busy now, please check back later.”
Before Elon Musk bought the platform, Twitter suffered a massive hack in 2020 in which the high-profile accounts of figures such as Joe Biden, Barack Obama, Jeff Bezos and Bill Gates were taken over. Musk himself also was a target of the incident, a bitcoin scam. A Tampa teenager was arrested and eventually pleaded guilty for his role in the hack, and was sentenced to three years in a juvenile facility.
