Crunchyroll Reveals Gachiakuta’s English Dub Release Date

Britney Spears’ 2002 film Crossroads is returning to the big screen.

The teen dramedy — featuring the Princess of Pop in her first feature role — will be rereleased in cinemas around the globe on Oct. 23 and Oct. 25 timed to the publication of her new tell-all memoir, The Woman in Me, which arrives Oct. 24. Trafalgar Releasing, Sony Music Entertainment and RCA Records announced the global fan event on Thursday.

This means Crossroads will go up against Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour, although Taylor Swift’s new concert pic will have a much bigger footprint. Eras Tour, which opens on Oct. 13, will be playing in thousands of theaters across North America, while Crossroads‘ location count is roughly 875 theaters.

Crossroads, based on a concept created by Spears, was written by Shonda Rhimes and directed by Tamra Davis. Anson Mount, Zoe Saldaña, Taryn Manning, Kim Cattrall and Dan Aykroyd co-star.

From MTV Films and Paramount, the movie first hit cinemas when the iconic pop singer was at the height of her career. The movie was considered a financial success upon earning $61.1 million worldwide against a budget of roughly $12 million. While critics panned the film, Spears earned praise for her performance.

Crossroads tells the story of three childhood friends who rediscover their friendship on a cross-country trip. “I recently rewatched Crossroads and was so enthralled with the time capsule of nostalgia that this incredible ensemble cast brings to the screen. Britney is absolutely breathtaking to watch, and Shonda is showing us her early expertise in writing complicated female characters,” Davis said in a statement.

The fan event will include a bonus sing-along of two Britney Spears’ songs from Crossroads that weren’t previously seen on the big screen.

RCA records is also releasing “Crossroads: Special Edition.” The soundtrack will include three new Britney Spears remixes: “Overprotected” (Richi Lopez Remix), “I’m Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman” (Snakehips Remix) and “I Love Rock ‘N Roll” (Frank Walker Remix). There also will be a major merchandise push.

“This special global theatrical rerelease of Crossroads is a gift to Britney’s fans and a reminder of her enormous impact on pop culture worldwide,” said Jennifer Bergstrom, senior vp and publisher of Simon & Schuster imprint Gallery Books, home of Spears’ memoir.

Gallery Books acquired the book in a bidding war. The Woman in Me will see Britney discussing her 13-year conservatorship, which was terminated in 2021 by a L.A. County superior court judge after Spears’ petition to suspend her father, Jamie, from his role as conservator of her estate was granted.

Tickets for the Crossroads rerelease go on sale Sept. 28.
