On the latest episode of The Joe Budden Podcast, Budden and his co-host spoke about Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion’s recent performance at the VMAs.
During the conversation Joe Budden took the time to address a few things. The former Slaughterhouse MC, made it clear that he wasn’t referring to Cardi when a clip went viral of him speaking about artist who ignore the “nine million” nice things he says and only acknowledges when he says something negative. According to Joe he didn’t even hear Cardi’s response but he did admit the headlines that he saw on social media hurt his heart. “I don’t click on things when they can hurt me emotionally,” he said. “Cardi is my girl, so when the headlines is, ‘Cardi B Tears Into Joe Budden’ — come on, man. That hurts. That hurts my heart.

“And I wouldn’t have been saying that directly to Cardi because I f*ck with Cardi. I was talking to a few of you other people, but now I have to address the Cardi sh*t.” He also said he doesn’t understand why things got out of hand after he revealed he didn’t like the song ‘Bongos’ he insinuated that if two people do speak directly to each other then “there’s plenty of room for gray area.”
As we previously reported, the clip that made Cardi deliver a response was when Budden let it be known that he feels like the song sounds like a “science project.” “Remember, I said all the top, top, top, top, artists make songs like a science project? That’s what this sounds like,” he shared. “This beat is undeniable because it’s already worked. We gonna put two of our biggest women rappers on it, talking they normal sh*t, but I don’t think this song is gonna work at all.”
He continued: “I hate the song. It’s not better than any of the songs like it. ‘WAP,’ ‘Up,’ it’s not better than Cardi B feature. This is Cardi getting ready to follow-up her debut album… They not gonna spend the money to keep this rolling into the fourth and first quarter. “The music business is reactionary. They’re gonna wait to see what the research is on this song… This record don’t seem like it has lasting power… There’s nothing in it to make it stay.” Budden also said he believes the time for “commercialized ratchet” music has passed and it’s time for “ghetto ratchet” to shine, citing “Pound Town” hitmaker Sexy Red as a prime example. “We need a ‘Bodak Yellow’ now. This sounds like two women who can’t make a song,” Joe stated. “I don’t see it.”

Cardi then responded by saying, “When Mal and Rory say f*ck sh*t about you or lies about you, you get so defensive and want to clear it up and you came at Taxtone because he said something about you and you wanted to clear it up. You want people to understand you want people to take your side.” Towards the end of the conversation she begins to speak on how Joe Budden went to interview Tasha K who spreader multiple lies about her in the media.
