After playing Baldur’s Gate 3 for a while, one thing will become abundantly clear, the map is very extensive and holds many significant areas, such as The Lower City. This area is one of several more significant regions of the map that contains plenty of new quests with various special rewards worth obtaining.
Unfortunately, the map is often difficult to navigate and the way to a new area is not always very clear. Similar to reaching the other area of the World Map in Baldur’s Gate 3, players are not going to be directly led to the area, rather the party will need to find their own way which can end up taking anywhere from several minutes to several hours and become increasingly frustrating.
How To Get Into Lower City
As with most things in Baldur’s Gate 3, there are several ways to accomplish the same task, and reaching the Lower City is no exception. Depending on how your party traditionally enjoys accomplishing different things, there’s a way to get into Lower City with permission and then there is the option of sneaking in.
In order to enter peacefully, players will need to solve the Open Hand Temple Murders, specifically involving the murder of Father Lorgan. To initiate it, simply speak with Valeria in the Open Hand Temple and then report back to her with your findings, she will then point you to the Lower City with permission to enter it.
For those who would rather take the sneaky option, head directly toward Wyrm’s Rock Fortress in Baldur’s Gate 3 and there will be a ladder off to the right once you reach the guards. Unfortunately, if not wanting to encourage a fight, the party will need to use Feather Fall here to avoid the guards and drop to the other side of the broken fence.
From here, there will be a part of the wall that’s broken, allowing access into the prison. At this point, players will need to pass an important deception check to convince the guards they’re a prisoner, if they fail the check, then a fight will ensue with all the guards.
Once either of those methods is complete, simply head over to the entrance of the prison to lockpick the door and enter into the Lower City. One thing of note is that you may want to look around the prison before moving on as freeing Counsellor Florrick could prove to be useful to you later. From here, the party is free to explore the Lower City of Baldur’s Gate 3 including all od the unique quests it has to offer.
