Jane Foster actress Natalie Portman ponders her character’s future after Thor: Love and Thunder.

Marvel’s Thor: Love and Thunder finds Chris Hemsworth’s titular God of Thunder reunited with his ex-girlfriend, Jane Foster (Natalie Portman). This time around, she is wielding Mjolnir as the Mighty Thor, and the duo reflect on their past as they venture alongside King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) and Korg (Taika Waititi) to stop Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who plans on bringing death to all gods.

Thor: Love and Thunder certainly leaves fan-favorite Marvel characters in an interesting place. In particular, it brings some significant change to the narrative that will help redefine certain characters’ dynamics in the MCU going forward, especially in the case of Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster

Will Jane Foster Return to the MCU?

Towards the conclusion of Thor: Love and Thunder, we see Jane Foster wield Mjolnir one last time, despite Thor’s concerns for her health. She helps him and the Asgardian children face off against Gorr the God Butcher, and unfortunately succumbs to her cancer. In the post-credits scene, she is shown at the gates of Valhalla, where she is welcomed by Heimdall (Idris Elba), seemingly confirming that she is dead for good.

Although it appears that this sequel looks to be a definitive conclusion for Jane Foster, Natalie Portman acknowledged an interest in returning to the MCU in the future:

“I am open to anything. It’s such a cool character and I feel like anything is possible.”

Ultimately, perhaps it’s best to keep Jane Foster in Valhalla along with Heimdall. Marvel is often criticized for how it handles its characters’ fates, and how the lack of stakes in regards to characters’ deaths are often a misdirect. If nothing else, using this film as an opportunity to put a bow on Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman’s collaboration in this film series was a solid way to send her off, while also putting Thor’s story in a fresh new dynamic now that he is serving as an adoptive father figure to Gorr’s daughter, Love.

Directed by Taika Waititi and produced by Kevin Feige and Brad Winderbaum, the Thor solo film stars Chris Hemsworth, Christian Bale, Tessa Thompson, Jaimie Alexander, Taika Waititi, Russell Crowe, Natalie Portman, Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Vin Diesel and Bradley Cooper.

Thor: Love and Thunder is now playing in theaters. Stay tuned for all the latest news surrounding the future of Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster, and subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
