After a long-awaited Broadway revival of ‘The Wiz,’ the production will be officially opening at the Marquis Theatre in April 2024. However, performances are said to begin at the theatre on March 29, 2024, ahead of an official opening night on April 17, 2024. Tickets for the limited engagement will be going on sale at a later date.
The news of the Broadway revival of ‘The Wiz‘ arrives after the launch of a pre-Broadway national tour on Sunday (September 24) in Baltimore, MD, where the musical had its original world premiere nearly 50 years ago.

Now, the newest cast for ‘The Wiz‘ on Broadway will feature: Nichelle Lewis as Dorothy; R&B powerhouse Deborah Cox as Glinda; Melody A. Betts as Aunt Em and Evillene; Avery Wilson as the Scarecrow; Kyle Ramar Freeman as the Lion; Phillip Johnson Richardson as the Tin Man; and Emmy Award winner Wayne Brady as The Wiz. The new adaptation will be helmed by Schele Williams and choreographed by JaQuel Knight.
The remaining ensemble for ‘The Wiz,’ will also include: Maya Bowles; Shayla Alayre Caldwell; Jay Copeland; Allyson Kaye Daniell Judith Franklin; Michael Samarie George; Collin Heyward; Amber Jackson; Olivia Jackson; Christina Jones; Polanco Jones; Kolby Kindle; Mariah Lyttle; Kareem Marsh; Anthony Murphy; Cristina Rae; Matthew Sims Jr.; Avilon Trust Tate; Keenan D. Washington; and Timothy Wilson.

On Monday (September 25), producers of the latest production of the iconic musical described the upcoming show as an “entirely reimagined revival.”
The original ‘Wiz‘ — first adapted in 1975 by William F. Brown as a Black version of L. Frank Baum’s classic ‘The Wizard Of Oz‘ story — became an acclaimed musical that went on to “ease on down” Broadway and make history with eight Tony Award nominations and seven wins.
The original cast included: singer Stephanie Mills as Dorothy; Stu Gilliam as the Scarecrow; Tiger Haynes as the Tin Man; Ted Ross as the Lion; Dee Dee Bridgewater as Glinda; Tasha Thomas as Aunt Em; Mabel King as Evillene; and André DeShields as The Wiz.
