In The Joker: The Man Who Stopped Laughing #10 by Matthew Rosenberg and Carmine Di Giandomenico, a battle in Gotham is heating up. The DC Universe’s two Jokers are at war with one another and use their gangs to wreak havoc in the city. Meanwhile, one of the Jokers is digging deep into the mystery of the second Joker’s origin, interrogating Black Mask for any information he has.
As Joker and Black Mask talk things out, Red Hood finds the Ventriloquist, one villain working for Gotham’s Joker and steals his cell phone to contact his boss. Joker wraps up his conversation with Black Mask and calls Ventriloquist, only to get the Red Hood, who ominously warns Joker that he’s coming for him. With the Red Hood and another Joker after him, Joker contacts one of his underlings and informs him that the “only fun member of the Bat-Family” may have murdered Ventriloquist and that Joker wants his crew back at their base pronto.
Joker Thinks That Red Hood is the Outlier of the Bat-Family (And He’s Right)
With more than one Joker running around, Red Hood has been running himself ragged to get his pound of flesh off at least one of them. When the Joker faced off with one of his copycats (which was actually Clayface in disguise), Jason tracked down and shot the Clayface impostor. However, he quickly realized that all wasn’t as it seemed and that the Joker he hated was still running around. Jason’s made it clear that when he finds the real Joker, he’s going to make the villain pay for everything he’s done.
When Joker calls Red Hood the ‘fun’ member of the Bat-Family, it’s obvious that he means Jason is the only hero on the team willing to kill. And he’s absolutely right. Despite doing his best to leave his murderous ways behind him, Jason has been backsliding lately. After shooting the disguised Clayface, Red Hood has been more determined than ever to find the Joker and put him down for good. For better or worse, Joker knows Jason and he knows that Red Hood is the only one in the Bat-Family with the same ‘wildcard’ factor as him.
Red Hood is More Similar To the Joker Than He Thinks
Joker thrives on chaos and unpredictability. And if any person is unpredictable in the Bat-Family, it’s Jason. Red Hood has gone back and forth in his methods, and few people know what he’s going to do at any given moment. Despite Jason making a vow to kill the Joker, the villain appreciates and even likes the chaos that Red Hood brings to usually predictable Gotham heroes. It’s a bit unsettling though, because Jason hates Joker with every fiber of his being. But the villain ironically appreciates the havoc Red Hood brings to the table.
