In a plush suburb of Queens, New York, a white neighbor took it upon themselves to hose down a prominent black doctor, Dr. Yves Duroseau, and his guests during a dinner party. Over a dozen plaintiffs have since filed a lawsuit against the neighbor, Marcus Rosebrock, who left partygoers drenched after having gathered to celebrate his sister’s birthday. The video, which has since been posted on social media, has sparked outrage from people questioning why the neighbor thought his actions were acceptable.
According to the New York Post, one of the guests who attended the party said that she believed they were being sprayed down to be made to feel “less than” animals. “We experienced a very specific, very heinous type of attack that harkens back to a dark period of this country’s history,” a statement by Katya Dossous revealed on Tuesday. “An attack I believe was premeditated, deliberate and thought out with the intent to make us feel ‘less than,’ like animals.”

It should have been an evening filled with laughter, good food, and lively conversation. However, the enjoyment was abruptly cut short by the incident, and instead of addressing the issue in a civil manner, matters were taken into the neighbor’s hands in the way they saw fit. The suit further mentions how water hoses have been used against people of color for years, and that “Mr. Rosebrock chose this specific method with the intent of dehumanizing us.”
One of the partygoers, who happened to be black, described the incident as an attempt by the white neighbor to make her feel “less.” This chilling statement speaks volumes about the deep-rooted racial prejudice that still exists within our communities. It is disheartening to think that in this day and age, people continue to face discrimination based on the color of their skin.

The lawsuit filed by Dr. Duroseau and the other plaintiffs seeks justice for the traumatizing experience they endured. Their legal representation, Mina Q. Malik and Derek Sells, have vowed to fight for their clients’ rights and ensure that such incidents do not go unpunished. The case has garnered significant attention and serves as a stark reminder that racism is an issue that needs to be confronted head-on.
This incident goes beyond a simple act of noise complaint; it is a reflection of systemic racism that still permeates our society. It is a painful reminder that even in affluent neighborhoods like Queens, people of color are not exempt from being subjected to acts of discrimination and prejudice. It is imperative that we address these issues and work towards creating a more inclusive and accepting society.
