A Michigan high school student is now facing felony assault charges after throwing a chair in class and hitting a teacher.
As we first shared a few days ago, a shocking video emerged capturing the horrifying moment when a 15-year-old high school junior hurled a metal chair at a teacher and knocked her out to the floor. The incident happened at Flint Southwestern Classical Academy on Thursday morning (September 28).
Things began when the unidentified girl who threw the desk chair had gotten into a heated argument with another female student. This prompted the teacher to step in and try to resolve the issues between the two students but to no avail. Instead, as the teacher turned her back, one of the students picked up a chair in the classroom and threw it with full force, directly aiming it at the teacher’s head.

Although the video footage making its rounds on the internet is fairly shot, it clearly shows the student hurling the chair and knocking the teacher down to the ground, leaving her there in pain for about seven seconds.
The shocking incident has left many questioning what initially led to the argument between the two students, and what underlying issues the suspect student may have had with the teacher, to use such aggression and violence towards her elder and school staff member.

Speaking with ABC 12, Flint Police Chief Terence Green said that a school resource officer was called to break up the fight between the two female juniors when they found the teacher lying on the ground with injuries to her head.
Subsequently, the teacher was taken to a nearby hospital, where she was treated for her injuries and has since been released, and is expected to return to teaching very soon, according to a statement from District Superintendent Kevelin Jones. It’s also reported that students and fellow staff members consider her a hero.

Following the incident, both students were arrested, initially without any formal charges announced. However, at the time, Superintendent Jones noted that the student who was seen hitting the teacher in the head would be held accountable for her actions under state law and under the school district’s code of conduct.
Jones wrote, “We are committed to ensuring that our schools are safe and conducive to learning for all scholars, and we take this responsibility very seriously.”
Since the incident, the Genesee County Prosecutor’s Office has announced that the 15-year-old student has been charged with two counts of felony assault for throwing the chair at the teacher and injuring her. Prosecutor David Leyton is the official who authorized the two felony counts.
