Ever-evolving tastemaker Surf Mesa has returned with a new single, “Run,” which he says “represents a significant chapter in [his] musical journey.”
Out now by way of Astralwerks, “Run” is an introspective collaboration that finds Mesa and Newport Beach native Griff Clawson sharing a relatable story of avoidant attachment tendencies.
Clawson’s lyricism sheds light on the relentless impulse to “run from the good ones” while Mesa produces a mellifluous soundscape with profound depth. Despite the urge to escape something that could be good for us out of fear of failure, the irresistible grooves throughout provide us with a level of optimism for progress and forward momentum.
“Run” will soon appear on Mesa’s forthcoming debut EP, Come True. Take a listen below and find the new single on streaming platforms here.
“The track ‘Run’ off my upcoming EP Come True is one of my favorites,” Mesa said in a statement. “I’ve been diligently working on this unreleased track, and it’s been a deeply personal project for me… and I believe it will resonate with you in a profound way.”
2023 has been fruitful thus far, with Mesa showing no signs of slowing down after releasing “City of Love,” “Manzanita” and “First Time.” Best-known for his global smash “ily (i love you baby),” the rising dance music star has stayed red-hot since his breakout year in 2019. Since then, he’s continued skyrocketing with celebrated collaborations with the likes of Gus Dapperton, Madison Beer, Bipolar Sunshine, NITTI and Steve Appleton to name a few.
Mesa is currently on tour, playing out a series of shows in North America. This weekend he’ll make an appearance in Vancouver before heading to Raleigh. In October, he’ll be joining The Chainsmokers and Two Friends, among others for “The Party Never Ends” at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, California and heading to Cabo San Lucas for Tiësto’s “Chasing Sunsets” event in November.
