According to a report by Gwinnett County Police officials, a 26-year-old man named Khalil Hamilton is now wanted after he allegedly rented a basement space on Airbnb, then tied up and robbed the owner of the home at gunpoint.
Initially, GC Police said they were “seeking the public’s help” in tracking down the suspect. On Saturday (September 26) around 11:00 p.m., the police alleged that Hamilton had used the home-sharing site to rent a basement room at the victim’s residence in Buford, a suburb outside of Atlanta, Georgia.

Police said about an hour after making it inside the rental space, Hamilton allegedly sent a text to the Airbnb host who was upstairs, claiming there was “a bathroom repair” that he needed help with completing. Apparently, he claimed that the toilet that he had access to was leaking and needed fixing.
According to an official news release posted to the Gwinnett County Police Department’s Facebook account, a spokesperson wrote, “While the victim was assessing the maintenance complaint by Hamilton, he brandished a black handgun and demanded the victim lie on the floor. Hamilton zip-tied the victim and stole the victim’s wallet [which included cash and credit cards] and watch before fleeing the residence.”
