It seems as though Batgirl can’t avoid the headlines. A new report reveals an extra for the film is suing Warner Bros. Discovery due to a life-threatening injury she sustained on set.
Cristina Stanovic was an extra playing a bystander on the set of Batgirl when it was filming back in 2021. During the filming of a scene involving cameras mounted on the back of motorcycles, Stanovic was struck by the vehicles, leading to what she describes as a life-threatening set of injuries that would’ve been “easier” to die than suffer through treatment for.
“They had a motorcycle with cameras on top of it that was filming. I started screaming to get the attention of the paramedics as I remembered seeing an ambulance on site in the previous days,” Stanovic told The Sun. “I lay there for almost an hour while they checked me and stabilised me. Unfortunately, I didn’t lose my consciousness. The memory will forever traumatise me.”
“My femur, my tibia plateau, my pubic bone, a lot of non-displaced fractures in the pelvis, a broken thumb, and laceration to the head. They did the femur surgery after approximately 10 hours. It lasted more than five hours, I had five blood transfusions and I almost died.”
The Batgirl extra is now suing Warner Bros. Discovery for her injuries. While it’s certain to be a hard-fought battle against their lawyers, our prayers go out to Cristina Stanovic for her continued recovery in light of her horrific accident.
Is Leslie Grace coming back as Batgirl?
Reports at the time of the Batgirl cancellation indicated that Warner Bros. Pictures Group co-chiefs Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy are considering having Leslie Grace appear as Barbara Gordon in other DC Comics movies. For now, Grace’s Batgirl future remains in doubt as James Gunn and Peter Safran continue mapping out the future of the DC Universe.
Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah were the directors of the Batgirl movie, working from a script by Christina Hodson, the writer behind Birds of Prey and The Flash. Its cast also included J. K. Simmons as James Gordon, Jacob Scipio as Anthony Bressi, Ivory Aquino as Alysia Yeoh and Brendan Fraser as Firefly. Rebecca Front, Corey Johnson and Ethan Kai were also on board in undisclosed role.
