Some new details have surfaced regarding Marvel’s Daredevil: Born Again, and some of that info specifically relates to the character that Michael Gandolfini is playing. It’s been disclosed that he will be taking on the role of Daniel Blade, which is a new character created for the series and was not pulled from the comics.

But, the character is reportedly Wilson Fisk’s Director of Communications, and apparently, there’s more to him than meets the eye. It’s said that this character might be the MCU’s version of Butch. This is a gangster character who learns that Kingpin had an affair with his mother. In the comics, he rises up through the ranks and has the ambitious goal of becoming the new Kingpin of Crime.

This information was all pointed out by industry scooper CanWeGetSomeToast. Some of this intel came from the Daredevil: Born Again copyright page. It was also revealed that there will be some episodes in the series where we won’t see Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) suit up as Daredevil at all. He’s going to be putting a lot of focus on his law firm, Murdock & Associates.

The cast of Daredevil: Born Again also includes Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk/Kingpin, Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle/The Punisher, and Sandrine Holt as Vanessa Fisk. It also includes Margarita Levieva, Nikki M. James, Michael Gaston, Arty Froushan, and Clark Johnson in undisclosed roles.

D’Onofrio previously talked about the series and what we can expect and revealed that there will be a Season 2. He explained that the show is going to feature some “gigantic payoffs” in both its first and second seasons. D’Onofrio also added that both Cox and Bernthal will play “a major part of the show.” He also said that is going to be very different than the Netflix show. He explained:

“We’ve only just started shooting. I think we’re a couple weeks in, and the show is going to be very, very different than the Netflix show, and it’s so exciting because what we’re doing is quite something. I think it’s something that people are not going to expect. But, always with these Marvel old comic stories that are being revisited and reinvented by us actors, and the writers, the main thing is to answer the fans. To give them what they want but try to be original in some way at the same time, and so that’s what we’re doing on the show. It’s definitely an original way to look at this, and it’s really deep, really emotional.”

He then teased the second season saying:

“And, by the second season, there are gigantic, gigantic payoffs—in the first season, too, but I can’t say much about that—but the fans are gonna really get what they want. It’s really quite cool to be doing it.”

It was initially announced that Daredevil: Born Again would consist of 18 episodes. During a previous interview, Charlie Cox offered some insight on what we can expect from his character saying:

“I don’t think it’s a different character. I just think it’s maybe a different period of his life. I don’t think my interpretation will change — they hired the same actor. We’re saying this is a whole new… era, or variant? I haven’t read the scripts, so I don’t know. But like, it’s part of the multiverse?”

Cox also previously shared that the series will be “a whole new thing” saying:

“I think that the sense is it is a new beginning, it is going to be different, it is going to be totally different. It is going to be new stories, and new ideas. It is a Season 1, it is not Season 4, so it is a whole new thing. Which I think is the way to go. If you are going to do it again, do it differently.”

The series is being written and executive produced by Matt Corman and Chris Ord, and it’s expected to be released in January 2025.
