Kevin Abstract of BROCKHAMPTON showed off a new rock-oriented direction on recent single “Blanket,” and now he has announced a new album, also titled Blanket, which is said to go in a similar direction.
“I wanted to make, like, a Sunny Day Real Estate, Nirvana, Modest Mouse type of record,” Abstract says, “but I wanted it to hit like a rap album.” Along with the announcement, he’s shared a new teaser video called “Gum,” and you can check that out below.

Abstract made the album over a three-month period this year, working mostly with longtime collaborator and producer Romil Hemnani, along with multi-instrumentalist Jonah Abraham (who’s also worked with BROCKHAMPTON, Playboi Carti, and others). According to a press release, “The creation process was a collaborative one, with Abstract and his production team involving young screenwriters and veteran songwriters alike.”
Abstract also previewed material off the album at his recent intimate NYC and LA shows. The record arrives Nov. 3 via Video Store/RCA.
