A woman revealed on TikTok that she moved to Virginia for a new job and only worked for seven days before finding out she wasn’t hired.

Camryn Spina applied for a job as a cheerleading coach at a college in Virginia, and she said she had an interview with the head coach over a video call in June. In a report by Insider, Spina said the interview went very well, as she spent over an hour speaking with him about the position. The young woman explained in a TikTok video that the college sent her an email to visit the facilities and sent her a rental car. The second interview reportedly lasted five hours, and she noted that the head coach wanted to hire her for the job.
Spina received a follow-up email on July 11, and the head coach explained that she would be able to start on August 1. Other emails discussed her experience with administrative work and her relocation plan. The 24-year-old ended her lease in Florida and rented a storage unit in Virginia since the head coach placed Spina in a hotel.

She started working on August 1 and said she was purchasing items for the team, entirely administrative tasks. Seven days later, she asked the college’s human resources if they received her details. Still, they explained in an email that her job application was under review despite working at the facilities for seven days. Her boss asked her on August 9 if she had received any news about her work status and said she should only work once HR resolved the situation. Spina said she never received an offer letter to confirm her new position.
On August 11, an HR employee called Spina and explained that they didn’t have her on record and confirmed they didn’t hire her for the position. Her boss stopped all communication, and Spina said she was more worried about her financial situation because of the money used to fund her relocation. Spina temporarily moved in with her parents in Pennsylvania and has been working a remote, part-time job. The college reimbursed Spina for the error, she noted.
After her video went viral on TikTok, over 400 users commented on the situation and gave Spina some suggestions on how to handle future hiring debacles.
One user wrote, “I’m sorry – but what HR department doesn’t investigate the moment someone says they’re in the office working a job they haven’t processed/filled?” Another said, “Wow!!! Been there, done that. I was hired by one person, and then told by the boss that the person who hired me wasn’t supposed to…”

Others suggested taking legal action, but Spina did not disclose whether or not she would take legal action against the college.
