Universal Destinations & Experiences revealed today the name of the company’s first-ever permanent horror experience: Universal Horror Unleashed.
The new concept – to be located at Area15 in Las Vegas – pairs the company’s expertise in the horror genre with immersive experiences in an all-new format. The horror-centric experiences will surround eerie eateries and bone-chilling bar areas. It will deliver what Universal promises is “a new level of experiential entertainment.” In addition, guests can expect “a continuously-updated experience with must see seasonal events and one-of-a-kind merchandise.”
“Universal Horror Unleashed is another way we are using our unique style of horror storytelling to engage fans of this genre,” said Page Thompson, President, New Ventures, Universal Destinations & Experiences in a statement. “We look forward to bringing frightful fun to Las Vegas year-round.”
Universal Horror Unleashed, first announced without a moniker earlier this year, is part of the company’s ambition to introduce new products to new audiences in new markets. It is the anchor tenant in the 20-acre expansion of Area15, an immersive entertainment district in Las Vegas.
Area15 was described by Fast Company as “an experiential next-gen mall.” It is located a few blocks off the Strip on Rancho Drive. The attraction will occupy a 110,000 square-foot space.

In January, Mark Woodbury, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer for Universal Parks & Resorts listed among the Vegas project’s goals “broadening our reach to deliver unique concepts for new audiences in new markets.”
Also earlier this year Universal Parks & Resorts announced a property situated in Texas specifically designed to inspire fun for families with young children. The company promised “a lush green landscape and featuring immersive themed lands” that celebrates “Universal’s iconic brand…and brings to life its beloved characters and stories in ways that will wow even the youngest theme park goers.”
The company has even bigger plans for its Epic Universe theme park in Orlando set to open in 2025. Epic will be the company’s third park in Orlando. It will have four themed lands surrounding a central hub featuring the most advanced technology of any Universal park, including next-generation robotics, drone technology and a facial recognition system to ensure guests a “frictionless” experience.
Universal has long defined the horror genre with its classic films featuring iconic characters such as Frankenstein’s monster, the Mummy, and the Wolf Man. It has redefined modern horror and suspense through collaborations with filmmakers such as Jason Blum, James Wan and Jordan Peele.
In its 32nd year, Halloween Horror Nights is currently taking place with select attractions incorporating The Exorcist: Believer, Five Nights at Freddy’s, Chucky, The Purge, Universal Monsters and more.
