In Jada Pinkett’s new memoir “Worthy,” the actress relives one of the most painful times in her life after losing her good friend Tupac Shakur.
As many know, the rapper died in 1996 after being shot in a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas while riding with Death Row Records founder Suge Knight who was in the driver’s seat. In the book, Smith writes about a private memorial she held in actress Jasmine Guy’s backyard and how she was left upset when Knight “delivered Pac’s ashes into my very hands.”
Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, Smith recalled, “Having to receive Pac’s ashes in that way was a really devastating moment and I’ll put it like that, to just get him in that little cardboard box, and yes, I was very rageful about the whole thing, about everything,” she said.
During the interview, Smith also made it clear that despite their tight bond, all they had was a very good friendship.
“On the internet, there’s been a whole lot of things about me calling Tupac my soulmate, and I think people regard soulmate just in a romantic way,” she said before adding, “Soulmates aren’t just romantic.”

The investigation into Tupac’s murder has been ongoing for decades, with various theories and rumors circulating about who may have been responsible. Some believe it was connected to an ongoing feud between East Coast and West Coast rap artists at the time, while others speculate about potential motives involving personal disputes or even conspiracy theories.
After years of investigating, a man identified as Duane “Keffe D” Davis was arrested in late September. Davis was indicted on one count of murder with a deadly weapon, reported AP.
Reacting to the news on her Instagram Story, Pinkett Smith said at the time, “Now I hope we can get some answers and have some closure. R.I.P. Pac”
