It’s another spooky, scary Saturday as Weekend Reading 181 arrives!

What will you be paging through this weekend, and will it be something by the King of Halloween? The Beat wants to hear from you! Give us a shout-out in the comment section and let us know.

Weekend Reading 181
Weekend Reading 181: Dog Biscuits

AVERY KAPLAN: This weekend, I’m going to be rereading Dog Biscuits by Alex Graham. I don’t have any real underlying reasoning for this, it’s just a comic I like a lot that I’m looking forward to revisiting!

Weekend Reading 181
Weekend Reading 181: Fly Me to the Moon

DEAN SIMONS: In dire need of a pick-me-up, I am continuing my read of John Werry’s translation of Kenjiro Hata’s teen newlywed series Fly Me To The Moon. Up to volume 4 – it is so daft and charming that you can’t help but smile reading it.

Weekend Reading 181
Weekend Reading 181: Weird Work

D. MORRIS: I’m catching up on my pull list pile this weekend. This means that I’m finally working my way through Shakey Kane and Jordan Thomas’ Weird Work. It’s a brightly colored weirdo sci-fi procedural that features Kane’s signature modern take on Silver Age comics. Definitely for folks who want something off the beaten path!

Weekend Reading 181
Weekend Reading 181: Curses!!!

JUSTIN GUERRERO: Doing a re-read of ronroncora’s Webtoon CURSES!!! To catch up on the newer episodes as she is doing some fundraising to get the first volume of her series printed. So I am excited and just seeing what I have missed and what small details I may have overlooked in earlier chapters from the first time I read the series. Also a new episode of SABLE CURSE has dropped so i’m going to do a re-read of that series before reading the new episode too. Lots of catching up on my part.

Weekend Reading 181
Weekend Reading 181: The Art of TMNT: Mutant Mayhem

TAIMUR DAR: After the chaos of NYCC last weekend, I am definitely eager to take it easy and actually get to some weekend reading. Speaking of NYCC, I happened to see the IDW booth was selling copies of The Art of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem so I couldn’t resist buying a copy there. Like most everyone and as a huge TMNT fan, I adored the film so I can’t wait to read the behind-the-scenes book. Likewise, as I mentioned before, back in 2021 I started reading the Invincible comics but I had to stop around the halfway point when my life got busy. Towards the end of the summer, I decided to read Invincible from the beginning and I’m finally back to where I left off with the epic “Viltrumite War” storyline. Hoping I can finish the entire run before the second half of the animated series is released later in 2024.

Weekend Reading 181
Weekend Reading 181: Marriagetoxin

MERVE GİRAY: Decided to use this weekend to catch up on some of the titles I’ve started reading on Manga Plus, and the one I’m looking forward to returning to the most is Marriagetoxin by Joumyaku & Mizuki Yoda. A talented hitman and the head of his clan, Gero, steps up to relieve his sister of the duty of continuing the bloodline because she’s happily in a relationship with her partner. However, with no social life as we know it and zero experience in dating, he ends up joining hands with a marriage swindler to up his “dating game”. Full of action and silly circumstances, and a great weekend read!

Weekend Reading 181
Weekend Reading 181: The Mist.

CY BELTRAN: Having realized that I chose a Stephen King break during spooky season, I’ve immediately rectified that by starting The Mist. I’ve heard it’s got a crazy ending but I have no idea what to expect. I also plan on catching up on Cody Ziglar and Federico Vicentini’s run on Miles Morales Spider-Man to get my Spidey fix in, while I await a PS5 to play the new game on. And finally, this morning, I’m headed to Martin Scorsese’s newest film, Killers of the Flower Moon because I can’t wait to sit through a 3 hour and 26 minute film (and you know, art).
