Richard Roundtree died and Hollywood is reacting to the news as they remember the late actor.
Samuel L. Jackson was one of the first celebrities to pay tribute to Roundtree having worked together in the reboot of Shaft. Jackson said that Roundtree’s “passing leaves a deep hole not only in my heart.”
Gabrielle Union, who worked with Roundtree on the television series Being Mary Jane, took to social media to express what a “dream” it was to share scenes with him.
“Working with Richard Roundtree was a dream. Getting to hang with him & our Being Mary Jane family was always a good ass time with the best stories & laughs,” Union posted on X, the social network fomerly known as Twitter. “He was ALWAYS the coolest man in the room with the BEST vibes & ppl would literally run over to come see him. He was simply the best & we all loved him.”

Isaac Hayes shared a post on X saying, “The Hayes family would like to share our sadness with the loss of Richard Roundtree, a true icon. His legendary role as SHAFT, transcended the screen, defining an era. Rest in power, Richard.”
Carl Weathers took to X to write the following: “I just heard, the icon that is Richard Roundtree is gone. The original SHAFT!!! His performance influenced so many and so much. And he was a great guy! #NeverForgotten #BePeace.”
Stephanie Mills took to Instagram to share a photo of herself with the later actor adding, “My goodness I am heart broken and saddened by the loss of another legend. I was so glad to have him watch me perform this summer. It was a great honor to meet him with my manager @ampharris in Indianapolis at Indiana Black Expo.”
Former NBC Sports reporter Michele Tafoya said, “RIP Richard Roundtree. Shaft was classic.”
