How Many Kids Do Claire Danes and Hugh Dancy Have?

Actors Claire Danes and Hugh Dancy have been together since 2006 and have two boys together — and now, as of 2023, they also have a baby girl. Their third child’s arrival was confirmed by People on July 11, 2023, meaning that Danes and Dancy now have a sweet family of five.

In general, Danes and Dancy tend to keep their private lives off of social media, meaning we don’t know all that much about their kids. Danes did open up about how her two oldest boys took the news about her pregnancy in January, though, and it sounds like they both had different views on their impending sibling. “[Our oldest], Cyrus, was sort of resigned to it. I mean, the worst has already happened, his name is Rowan,” Danes said during an appearance on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.” “But Rowan has more to lose, like, he has more at stake. And he was categorically opposed to the idea. He said, ‘Yeah, no no no, I don’t like it. I like peace, Mama.’ I was like, that’s rich because that dude does not shut up.”

Rowan even had some creative ideas about what to do with the baby when it arrived. Apparently, he suggested that “when it comes out of your tummy, we’ll give it to a family that doesn’t have a baby because we’re done,” Danes said. But, she continued, Rowan was more open to the idea of a sibling when his parents explained things to him in more detail. “He was less than thrilled, but then we talked about how when the baby comes out, it’s going to be pretty dumb [and] doesn’t know a lot, [and will] need assistance and some educating,” Danes continued. “That was interesting to him. He liked the idea of being a condescending presence. So, now he’s a little more optimistic.”

While Danes and Dancy may tend to play pretty serious characters on the big screen, they’re clearly parenting with humor and a lot of love. The two told Humans of New York at the 2017 Met Gala, “Having a child was the best thing that ever happened to us. But it is constant company with terrible conversation.”

Cyrus Dancy

Cyrus Dancy was born on Dec. 17, 2012. He is Danes and Dancy’s oldest child. Back in 2014, Danes told Harpers Bazaar UK that Cyrus was turning out to be a bit of a showman. “He’s kind of revealing himself to be a bit of a ham,” she said, per E, “which shouldn’t really be a surprise. A babysitter gave him a kiss goodbye and now he does ‘Mwah, mwah’ to everybody. Or he says ‘Ciao.’ It’s ridiculous. I did not teach him that.” Danes and Dancy are raising Cyrus, along with Rowan, in New York City, and can sometimes be seen out on the streets walking together.

Rowan Dancy

Rowan Dancy was born on Aug. 27, 2018. He is Danes and Dancy’s youngest child. When Danes was pregnant with Rowan, Cyrus also wasn’t sold on being a big brother, according to the Daily Mail. “He’s mostly enthusiastic about it,” she said. “There was a little wobble a couple months ago, where he was saying, ‘You’re gonna love the baby more than you love me!'” Danes also filmed “Homeland” while pregnant with Rowan — and she told Jimmy Fallon in 2018 that she accidentally napped too hard because she was so tired from pregnancy and they had to halt filming to get the sleep marks off her face.

Not much is known about Danes and Dancy’s third child. People confirmed that the couple had welcomed a girl on July 11, and her parents have kept most of the details about her under wraps.
