In celebration of the recent release of The Headless Horseman Halloween Annual 2023 one-shot, the launch of Count Crowley: Mediocre Midnight Monster Hunter, and the stunning and bloody conclusion of The Lonesome Hunters: The Wolf Child, Dark Horse presents a special event at the historic Hollywood Theatre in Portland, Oregon. On Thursday, November 2, Dark Horse continues the Halloween and spooky season celebrations with a screening of Frankenhooker—chosen especially for this event by actor and writer David Dastmalchian (Count Crowley, The Headless Horseman Halloween Annual)—followed by a discussion of horror comics with Tyler Crook (Harrow County, The Lonesome Hunters, The Headless Horseman Halloween Annual) and Lukas Ketner (Count Crowley, The Headless Horseman Halloween Annual), hosted by Eric Li (Scariest Things Podcast). While David Dastmalchian is not able to make it to the event in person, he will be introducing the film via a special video just for the audience.

Of the film selection, Dastmalchian says, “Frankenhooker is a bleak and dark comedic horror film that dives headfirst into the forbidden fun of gorey, sex-infused, irreverently wild horror. While much more broad and campy than the world of Count Crowley, the concepts and visuals of Frankenhooker were a big inspiration for me while I was crafting the narrative for Volume 3 of the Count Crowley saga… as Jerri Bartman becomes a ‘Mediocre Midnight Monster Hunter’ she is confronted by a string of missing corpses which lead to a mysterious experiment in Kansas City. Reanimated Jane Does as sex workers? Frankenstein-style cattle-breeding to feed vampires? What the heck is going on in Count Crowley? You will be asking yourself what the heck is going on in New Jersey as you watch Frank Henenlotter’s cult classic…. FRANKENHOOKER!”
A special limited-edition variant of The Headless Horseman Halloween Annual 2023, illustrated by Phillip Sevy, will also be available at the event for purchase from Dark Horse and Things From Another World along with other horror comics from both Tyler Crook and Lukas Ketner. The limited-edition (only 500 copies!) variant of The Headless Horseman Halloween Annual 2023 is priced at $20. For those who cannot make it to the event, the special variant is also available for sale at darkhorsedirect.com, while supplies last.
Event details: On Thursday, November 2, doors at the Hollywood Theatre (4122 NE Sandy Blvd. Portland, OR 97212) will open at 6:30 pm, followed by the film at 7:30 pm. Seating is first-come, first-served. Following the showing of Frankenhooker, comic creators Tyler Crook and Lukas Ketner will be joined by Eric Li on stage for a live Q&A session about the comics. Audience questions will also be encouraged, and if there is time, the creators will sign comics at the Dark Horse and TFAW tables in the lobby.
Tickets can be purchased online from the Hollywood Theatre’s website, hollywoodtheatre.org. See more details here.

About Count Crowley: Mediocre Midnight Monster Hunter: Count Crowley follows Jerri Bartman as she takes over the role of a late night horror host and finds out that monsters are real, and the job actually includes… hunting them?!. The third arc in this series begins on November 8 with issue #1 of Count Crowley: Mediocre Midnight Monster Hunter. In this new miniseries, Jerri is struggling after her friend, and former werewolf, is killed by her horror host predecessor, whose return brings no consolation. There’s no end to the monster hunting in sight, though, as a ghoulish child-snatcher in Beloit blinks onto Jerri’s radar.
About The Lonesome Hunters: From Russ Manning Award-winning and Eisner-nominated Harrow County co-creator Tyler Crook comes a supernatural fantasy about loss, power, and destiny. An old and out-of-practice monster hunter in hiding crosses paths with a young girl that forces him to confront these chaotic creatures. As the beasts invade their tenement they set off on a supernatural road trip to stop these ancient evils in a story that explores the ways that youth informs adulthood and how early traumas can haunt us in old age.
About Harrow County: An Eisner-nominated southern gothic series by Cullen Bunn and Tyler Crook about haints, haunts, magic, and more. Emmy always knew that the woods surrounding her home crawled with ghosts and monsters. But on the eve of her eighteenth birthday, she learns that she is connected to these creatures–and to the land itself–in a way she never imagined.
The Headless Horseman Annual, The Lonesome Hunters, Harrow County, and Count Crowley Volumes 1 and 2 are now available in comic shops. Count Crowley: Mediocre Midnight Monster Hunter #1 will be available in comic shops on November 8.
