James Gunn’s Unique Take on Supergirl Compared to Guardians

Universal/Blumhouse scored another hit with the big-screen adaptation of Five Nights at Freddy’s, which scored $78 million in its debut, crushing even the most outlandish forecasts by a healthy margin, per Deadline. What’s more impressive is that Five Nights also debuted on Peacock, which typically results in lower-than-expected results. Not here. One could argue the opening might’ve been over $100M without Peacock, but this is still a massive win.

Worldwide, the horror feature scored a massive $130.6M, making it the biggest horror bow globally this year, ahead of The Nun II’s $88.1M. It’s also Blumhouse’s biggest opening, topping Halloween’s $91.8M in 2018. Regarding video game adaptations, FNaF comes in behind Super Mario Bros. ($146.3M) and Sonic the Hedgehog 2 ($72M).

Taylor Swift dropped to second this weekend, scoring another $14.7M to raise Eras Tour’s domestic total to $149.3M. Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon tumbled -60% in Week 2, grossing just $9M. The $200M production has accrued just $40.6M domestically and $88M worldwide. Yikes!

We now head into November, which features a few high-profile releases, namely The Marvels, The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, Trolls Band Together, Napoleon, and Disney’s Wish. Will any of them top Five Nights at Freddy’s colossal debut?
