Marvel Studios has recently released a book detailing the timeline of the MCU. In doing so, it addressed one massive continuity error in Spider-Man: Homecoming.
For those unaware, Spider-Man: Homecoming held a flashback to 2012’s Battle of New York, which took place in The Avengers. It then showed a title card for “Eight Years Later”, jumping to the events of the film. This confused MCU fans given the film took place in and came out in 2016, only four years after the Battle of New York.
Marvel Studios has officially remedied this continuity error in their new book Marvel Studios’ The Marvel Cinematic Universe – An Official Timeline, which serves as an official timeline to the MCU. According to the book, the title card was indeed wrong, with the events of Spider-Man: Homecoming taking place in the Fall of 2016.
This certainly isn’t the only error in the MCU. However, given how prominent Spider-Man: Homecoming was when it came out, it certainly was the most notable. It seems as though Marvel Studios has a much tighter grip on their timeline now, meaning continuity errors like this are much less likely to happen in the future.
What’s next for Spider-Man?
What does the future hold for Tom Holland’s Peter Parker? The success of Spider-Man: No Way Home has opened up a world of possibilities for the fan-favorite Marvel character. The movie ends with Peter erasing himself from the memories of his loved ones in order to protect them from his enemies. This sets up an interesting dynamic for future Spider-Man movies, as Peter will have to navigate a world in which he is not known as Spider-Man.
Rumor has it that Tom Holland has signed on for multiple Marvel Cinematic Universe appearances after Spider-Man: No Way Home. The future of the Spider-Man series is currently unclear, but it is likely that Marvel will continue to explore the multiverse concept that was introduced in No Way Home.
Spider-Man: No Way Home is now available to own on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray, Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital HD. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding Spider-Man’s Marvel Cinematic Universe future and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
