Why Matthew Perry’s Chandler Character Resonated With Many Friends Fans
Since it was confirmed, Perry’s industry peers have shared their respective tributes to the actor. For those he worked with in Friends, there was one thing common in their messages — the fact that Perry was as vibrant and warm as his on-screen persona. Each member of the Friends main cast offered something fresh to the table. They were all different in their own ways, which made the show energetic. Chandler was, however, undoubtedly the most comforting of them all.
Known for his sarcastic comments and witty one-liners, Chandler was arguably the funniest character in Friends. However, his brand of comedy was never mean, primarily because as much as he made fun of others, he also made fun of himself. He had no problem bringing humor to undercut some of the group’s dark realizations as they grew up in New York. Beneath his jovial exterior, however, Chandler was a devoted friend.
