Warner Bros Discovery has signed a multi-year Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Taiwan Mobile and Taiwan Creative Content Agency (TAICCA) to create and distribute Taiwanese original content locally and across international markets.

While details of specific projects have yet to be announced, Warner Bros Discovery has previously produced several scripted and unscripted Taiwanese shows over the past five years, including The Teenage Psychic, Dream Raider, Trinity Of Shadows, The World Between Us, Adventure Of The Ring and Who’s By Your Side.

The shows are available through regional streaming service HBO Go in Southeast Asia, Hong Kong and Taiwan.

Taiwan Mobile, which is Taiwan’s second largest telco, has previously invested in more than 40 productions including Tears On Fire, Magician On The Skywalk and The Victims’ Game. The company also previously partnered with Warner Bros Discovery on the HBO Asia co-production Workers, which received nine nominations and four awards at Taiwan’s Golden Bell Awards in 2021.

Supported by Taiwan’s Ministry of Culture, TAICCA is a public agency that helps develop, support and promote Taiwan’s creative industries and is hosting Taiwan Creative Content Fest (TCCF, November 7-12) in Taipei next week.

Taiwan’s Ministry of Culture has also been working on amendments to the Cultural and Creative Industries Development Act to provide financial incentives to support development and investment into local creative industries.

In a statement, the three partners said that the MOU “combines the expertise and reach of the three companies to develop, produce and distribute local IP and content for both local and global audiences”.

The MOU was signed by Daphne Lee, Taiwan Mobile’s Vice President of New Media Business; Cindy Ma, Head of Commercial Taiwan, Warner Bros Discovery; Taiwan’s Minister of Culture Shih Che; and TAICCA Chairperson Homme Tsai.
