Speaking with WIRED, Deadpool 3 director Shawn Levy confirmed that the movie’s title has yet to be finalized. According to Levy, some names have been thrown around for the upcoming Marvel movie, which include Deadpool versus Wolverine, Deadpool and Wolverine, and Deadpool 3 With Wolvie, but nothing has been confirmed yet. “No, there’s no title yet. I sometimes refer to it as “Deadpool versus Wolverine” or “Deadpool and Wolverine” or “Deadpool 3 With Wolvie”—we’ve got a few titles we’ve been bandying about, but boy, it’s a tough one.”
Why Deadpool 3 Changing The Franchise’s Title Tradition Is Good
Deadpool and Deadpool 2 are simple titles, which makes Deadpool 3 breaking the franchise’s title tradition a good thing. Deadpool 3’s story seems to involve Jackman’s Wolverine in a big way, with the actor being the movie’s co-lead. Given his prominence in the film and how beloved Jackman’s take on Wolverine is, it is only right that the MCU movie is looking to add him to its title.
Another point in favor of Deadpool 3 breaking the mutant franchise’s tradition is that the upcoming film is the first to feature Wade Wilson in the MCU. Given the momentous occasion, a more creative title seems in order. While Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man trilogy maintained a simple title format, most other MCU franchises have included a subtitle from the start or seen sequels vary from a simple format.
With the names revealed by Levy as possible titles for Deadpool 3 all including Jackman’s Wolverine, audiences are certainly going to be even more excited about Jackman’s return. Before the actor was ever confirmed to return, Reynolds had mentioned that he envisioned Deadpool 3 as a “road trip” film between Deadpool and Wolverine. With Deadpool 3 set photos and videos hinting at a journey across the Fox Marvel universe, Reynolds’ original idea seems to be coming true, and Deadpool 3 getting a more creative title is the perfect way to celebrate that.
