‘Spinal Tap II: The End Continues’: Movie Review

If there’s anyone to soundtrack our hypnagogic states, it’s What So Not and Daktyl.

With the profound ability to blend aching, dreamlike sound design with rave-fueled euphoria, both are revered producers in their own right. They’ve now joined forces to release a new track alongside a whimsical performance video, both of which EDM.com is premiering today in collaboration with Monstercat Instinct.

Indietronica meets drum & bass in “Fever,” which would lull you to sleep if not for the combustible rapture of its drops. With its sublime synths and floaty keys, the breathtaking track is a serotonin flusher.

What So Not begins by strumming a kalimba before taking the mic for a haunting verse. Daktyl then takes over the vocals for the pre-chorus, singing about the visceral nature of music and its capacity to shape our purpose. Check out the duo’s impassioned “Fever” performance video below.

“Personally, the lyrics to me are about dedication. Feverish passion, commitment and purpose,” Daktyl said. “For both Chris [What So Not] and I, we have found that through music. It is how we give shape to the world around us. Conversely, making music is absolutely an addiction. I cannot, and never want to, stop. Everyone is chasing this feeling that is within all of us, but can come in many forms, such as raising a family or teaching. It can of course take a darker shape, but it is important to try to bend it to the light, whatever that means to you.”

You can find “Fever” on streaming platforms here.
