JID has certainly inspired many fans over his time making music. But the Atlanta rapper has recently found out that he inspired one of his own heroes, Big Boi of OutKast.

Big Boi and JID recently had a conversation as part of Rolling Stone‘s “Musicians On Musicians” series. During the talk, Sir Lucious Left Foot told JID how he felt about the younger rapper’s work.

“I hear somebody like you and I’m like, ‘Yeah, boy. He get it.’ I love MCs who are not just rapping, but they’re saying stuff at the same time,” Big Boi said. “To me, being an MC, hearing J.I.D’s music makes me want to rap. That’s that shit.”

You can see the full conversation below.

JID was unsurprisingly blown away by Big Boi’s words.

That’s the highest compliment, right there,” he responded. “If I make you want to rap, I can literally say you made me rap. These guys [OutKast], they were amazingly fearless. And that was something that attracted me to it.”

Big Boi and JID previously worked together on Masego’s 2021 track “Garden Party.”

JID was in the news recently for defending his Dreamville Records head J. Cole.

A reporter caught up with JID last month in New York City, and he was asked about who had the better verse in the Cole-Drake collaboration “First Person Shooter.” The Atlanta native sided with his boss.

“I’ma go with J. Cole all day. It wasn’t even close,” the Dreamville rapper stated. “We love Drake though, but I don’t know.”

Before answering the question, JID also made sure to show love to Yeat — whether that means he thinks Yeat got the better of Drake on their “IDGAF” collab was not clear.

“First Person Shooter” served as the first Drake-Cole collab since 2019’s “Jodeci Freestyle.” The song went to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

In addition to handing J. Cole his first No. 1 single, “First Person Shooter” also wrote Drake further into the history books as he equaled Michael Jackson’s tally of No. 1 hits on the Billboard Hot 100.

The song secured Drizzy his 13th chart-topper, leaving only The Beatles (20), Mariah Carey (19) and Rihanna (14) ahead of him.
