Song Kang is reprising his role in the latest season of Sweet Home, which will premiere on December 1, 2023. The first season of the critically acclaimed K-drama garnered immense appreciation from all quarters.

My Demon’s Song Kang played a troubled teenager Cha Hyun-Su in season 1 of the Netflix series. The story revolves around him and his apartment neighbors who try to survive a disease that turns humans into monsters. While the entire city is affected, the Green Room residents try to survive. Towards the end of the first season, those who survived left the complex to find a new safe haven.

As it is, the storyline will resume in Sweet Home season 2, which also sees a new line-up of actors joining Kang and other cast members from the first season.

Sweet Home 2 will premiere on December 1, 2023, on Netflix. The K-drama is based on Kim Carnby and Hwang Young-Chan’s webtoon of the same name.

The cast includes Song Kang as Cha Hyun-Su, Lee Jin-Uk as Pyeon Sang-Wook, Go Min-Si as Lee Eun-Yu, Lee Si-Young as Seo Yi-Kyung, Jung Jin-Young as Park Chan-Young, Yoo Oh-Seong as Sergeant Tak In-Hwan, Oh Jung-Se as Dr. Lim, Kim Moo-Yeol as Kim Young-Hoo, and Park Gyu-Young as Yoon Ji-Su.

Lee Eung-Bok directs the thriller drama series, with Studio Dragon and Studio N producing it. Speaking about the storyline, Director Lee said, “It is going to be a full-fledged apocalyptic drama. While Season 1 portrayed tension and fear in the confined space of the Green Home, Season 2 will be set in an open space with the introduction of a whole new group of characters and monsters.”

Actors Jin-Uk and Si-Young added that season 2 would be slightly different from the Sweet Home webtoon. They also confirmed that the Green Room residents would go through major changes after escaping the apartment.

Sweet Home season 2 plot & synopsis

The trailers and photos of Sweet Home season 2 promise bloodshed and chaos. The first season ended with Cha Hyun-Su and Sang-Wook heading to a different destination after the latter got infected. The two parted ways from the residents in an armored truck.

The release date trailer showed a naked and bloodied Hyun-Su being dragged into a cage. He stands all chained up, and a voice asks him, “Are you the savior who can end all this?” When Hyun-Su enquires what he should do, blood is spilled on him. The rest of the trailer features chaos in the city.

The synopsis of Sweet Home 2 reads, “Residents of Green Home Apartments, including Cha Hyun-Su (Song Kang), fight against monsters to leave their base and venture out into the world. At a baseball stadium, survivors from all over begin to live together. They are threatened by the monsters outside and also by the monstrous desires of the people among them.”

Recap of season 1

Netflix Korean drama Sweet Home premiered on December 18, 2020, with 10 episodes. Song Kang played a teenager named Cha Hyun-Su, a high schooler who moves to a small apartment at the Green Room complex after his parents and sister die in a car accident.

He has always been an introvert, and a tragedy like this landed him into depression. Although he tried to commit suicide, things changed when a deadly disease started spreading around him, turning humans into monsters.

While the world turned upside down, Hyun-Su and his neighbors decided to fight the disease. Despite losing a few residents, the remaining survived and ended up leaving the complex. Season 1 ended on a cliffhanger.

Sweet Home 2 will premiere on December 1, 2023, on Netflix.
