A woman from China was charged with fraud earlier this year for allegedly scamming three men out of $92,000 by marrying them in fake weddings despite being legally married.

The 35-year-old woman, only identified as Zhou, was already married with a daughter when she started her alleged scheme. According to Oddity Central, it is unclear why she began the scam because her husband reportedly owned a successful business, and the family had no financial issues. However, one rumor stated that her husband was often busy with work and didn’t give her much attention.
Zhou targeted three men, and she managed to date them simultaneously without her husband knowing anything about them. For her to marry the three men without filing legal paperwork for marriage, Zhou told them that her home was “illegally demolished” and she needed to remain single to qualify for compensation. Before the fake wedding ceremonies, she hired actors to act as her relatives so they could keep up appearances.

Zhou allegedly wanted the marriage ceremonies so she could collect money and gifts from guests. However, her plan was foiled last year when one of her husbands, Zhang, realized she had faked her pregnancy after seeing a familiar photo on the internet. Zhou told him that she was pregnant with twins and wanted to give birth in another city with her mother, plus she wanted him to pay for the expenses. She sent him false documents of her checkups and images of random newborn children from the internet.
When Zhang wanted to visit Zhou with his mother to see the babies, she hired another actor to play the doctor who delivered them. But suspicions were raised when he couldn’t answer questions or show the babies in person. Zhang decided to run a background check on Zhou and learned she was legally married. He contacted the police, and she was arrested for the crime.
When her legal husband learned about the crime, he divorced her in April, and she faces ten years in prison for fraud after investigators revealed she scammed her three fake husbands out of 660,000 yuan($92,000).
