Here’s some cool news for Instagram users! The popular social media platform is taking its Close Friends feature to a whole new level. Previously, users could share stories with a select group of people, but now they can also share main feed posts and reels exclusively to their Close Friends.
So how does this new feature work? Well, before sharing a post or reel, all you have to do is tap on the “audience” menu and select your Close Friends list. Once it appears in the feeds of your Close Friends, it will be denoted with a vibrant green star icon – just like how Close Friends stories show up.
This new expansion of the Close Friends feature provides users with even more control over who sees their content. It’s perfect for sharing those special moments or exclusive updates with only your closest circle. Whether you want to share personal photos, behind-the-scenes footage, or exclusive announcements, this feature allows you to curate your content specifically for those who matter most.
According to Tech Crunch, the feature was tested in September. However, it will now roll out officially.
In a statement, Instagram said, “We know our community already uses Close Friends as a pressure-free space to connect with the people that matter most. We hope this opens up more ways to be your most authentic self on Instagram while having more choices over who sees your content.”

Instagram’s new Close Friends feed feature offers several benefits for users who want to share content with a select group of people. This feature allows users to create a separate feed exclusively for their close friends, providing a more personalized and intimate experience on the platform.
Aside from that, the Close Friends feature opens another potential revenue stream for creators. Currently, some already use third-party apps to sell subscriptions to their Close Friends stories. But now, creators have the potential to monetize exclusive Instagram content even further.
