Kim Kardashian has revealed that being a child of divorce made it easier for her when it came to handling her own split from husband Kanye West.
Speaking to GQ, Kardashian explained that she tapped into memories of how her parents explained their 1991 divorce to her and her sisters.
“I did think about how my parents handled it with us. I just remember them being open,” she said, despite noting her fear of her parents calling it quits.
“Ultimately, what matters is that kids feel loved and heard,” she told the outlet.

“You want to be sensitive because they’re just kids, and it’s hard to go through no matter what age,” she added.
“You have to make sure that you only go to a level that they can understand,” she continued. “It’s OK to show a vulnerable side. You never go to a negative side.”
Kardashian and West’s divorce was finalised in March 2022 and since then, both stars have publicly expressed their post-divorce struggles.

The star confessed she turned to therapy prior to her divorce and sought out a child psychologist to help her in the aftermath of the split.
“I do have a therapist that only deals in child psychology that I talk to to get parenting tips and advice,” she explained.
“Sometimes I feel challenged by parenting.”

Despite her challenges however, the TV star expressed her appreciation for the friends who support her.
“I have the best group of friends and we talk about everything together, so that to me is therapy,” she said. “I hit the lottery, the f–king Mega Ball of friends.”
Kim’s childhood friend, Allison Statter, told the publication that she’s proud that the mum of four was able to put her fear aside and go ahead with the divorce.
“I know how scared she was to do it ’cause deep down inside, she wanted her family to stay together,” she shared. “And because she was like, ‘I don’t know what life is going to be like on the other side of this.’ I was just so proud of her.”

Kardashian’s sister Khloe also chimed in.
“It’s a different assurance that she has in herself,” she said.
“She knows she can do it on her own. She knows the power that she has within herself, as opposed to thinking the power was in someone else’s hands.”
