More than 20 years after they first met on the set of Disney’s Halloweentown II: Kalabar’s Revenge, Kimberly J. Brown and Daniel Kountz are engaged.
The couple each took to their social media accounts on July 1, 2022 to announce the happy news, with 43-year-old Kountz writing on Instagram, “She said yes‼️❤️ Gunna love you forever [Brown].”
Brown, 37, wrote on Instagram, “Have I introduced you guys to my Fiancée [sic]? ☺️💍❤️ #isaidyes.”
Kountz met Brown in the early 2000s when he played Kal, Brown’s on-screen persona Marnie Piper’s nemesis in the 2001 television film Halloweentown II: Kalabar’s Revenge, but it wasn’t until 2018 that the couple confirmed they were dating.
The couple told E! News in 2021 that the sparks flying between them when they reconnected in 2016 – when Brown approached Kountz to appear in a sketch for her YouTube channel – came as a surprise to both of them.
Although Kountz did attend Brown’s 20th birthday party in 2004 and they had kept tabs on each other through social media, prior to 2016, there had been no romance between them. When the couple first met during filming, Brown was only 17, and Kountz was 22 and had a girlfriend.
Kountz told the publication that he was surprised when he met Brown again for the first time in 2016 at a dinner to discuss the sketch.
“When I first saw her when she walked in after we hadn’t seen each other forever, there was a definite shift and ‘Oh, you’ve grown up,'” he told the publication. “Like, ‘Oh okay, you’re wearing heels, wow, look at that. You’re like a pretty lady.'”
The duo have not ruled out reprising their roles in the franchise, though Kountz is now a real estate agent.
Brown, meanwhile, runs a YouTube channel, and has a TikTok and Etsy shop dedicated to Halloweentown.
She told the publication of reprising her role: “I think there’s a ton of possibilities if they ever decided to go down that road again.”
